First, simple things at home can already effectively reduce the discomfort of genital herpes. Another study showed that propolis, a waxy ingredient that honeybees make, contained in ointment can heal the sores and pain of herpes outbreaks. The difference in healing time between propolis ointment and the antiviral drug acyclovir as well as a placebo is significantly affirmative. Sores and severity of outbreaks were healing much faster. Propolis is a promising alternative to treat HSV outbreaks with proven positive results.


There are also other alternatives such as the natural Prunella vulgaris, and an edible mushroom, Rozites caperata, that hold chemicals that can effectively fight both HSV-1 and HSV-2 viruses.

Last but not least, those treatments have not been officially approved by FDA to be genital herpes treatments. They are considered nutritional supplements so they can easily be purchased through stores.
